Miso is a remarkably versatile thing to have in the kitchen. Here are some of its easier applications:
1. Make Miso Soup.
This is obvious. If you haven’t yet, please read my pages on miso soup. It’s quick, good, and good for you.
2. Smear On Toast.
I recommend one of those crusty country breads, and with butter.
3. Make Miso Mayo.
One part miso, one part mayo. Sprinkle shichimi togarashi (or anything with red pepper, really) for extra spice. Use it as a dip or a sandwich spread.
4. Serve With Apples.
Apples and miso. Try it, you will love it.
5. On Your Cheese Board.
With olives and crackers and cute veggies, with or without cheese.
6. Stir Fry Anything.
Flavor your stir fry with miso.
7. Make Salad Dressing.
It’s so simple I didn’t even write a recipe. Please read this page.
8. Swirl Into Hummus.
Be amazed. Your boring store bought hummus is suddenly bursting with flavor.
9. Mix With Honey.
Two parts miso, one part honey. This is a great marinade and glaze for meat, fish and veggies.
10. Flavor Tofu.
Try smearing it on sliced tofu, and wait 2 days in the fridge for the flavors to penetrate. Pan fry with a bit of oil and taste the transformation.
